Our beloved mother, Janice Berkman, passed away peacefully November 25th, 2016, at the age of 79. She was born in Kinston, NC on Aug 9th, 1937.

While a senior in high school, Jan met Bill, a dashing young Air Force navigator. She knew right away he was the one for her. They married in 1956 and spent the next 26 years traveling and raising four girls and enjoying their life and love for each other. They settled in Sacramento in 1975. She and Bill built their dream home in Fair Oaks.

Jan worked as a retail manager for many years and was very active in the Jewish community. She was executive director of the Home of Peace Cemetery for well over 10 years.

Known as Bubbe to her family (especially all her grandchildren), Jan was a unique individual with a larger than life personality. Everyone she met loved her sense of humor, her honesty, and her strength and determination, especially during the last months of her life.

Proceeded in death by her husband Bill, her brother Alan, and her parents Minnie and Emmanuel Traub, Jan is survived by four daughters (Miriam, Deena, Donna, and Karen), six grandkids (Jordan, Rachael, Dara, Mackenzie, Molly, and Alex), as well as numerous relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. David Lehman and the care staff of Oakmont Folsom for their exceptional care and love.

We will miss her greatly but know that she is now at peace.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service for Janice on Wednesday, November 30 at 1:00pm at Home of Peace Jewish Cemetery, 6200 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento.
